COSPLAY COMPETITION

Dress up as your favourite character from pop culture and compete with your peers on the Animaga Cosplay Competition!

Animaga’s Cosplay Competition will be divided into two categories.

     1.Individual

     2.Group

GENERAL RULES AND POLICIES

Multiple entries are permitted (one each day) but they must be of different characters.

Participants below the age of 18 must have the approval of a parent/legal guardian to participate.

If you have completed the online registration you must check in on the day, at the cosplay registration table, before 1pm each day.

Each entry must submit the following, or evidence of the following, by 10th September;

  1.A valid Weekend or One-day Pass.

  2.A completed Cosplay Competition Registration Form. (One for each entry)

  3.A minimum of 1 reference photo of the cosplay. (This is to ensure work has already begun on the cosplay).

  4.Up to 3 additional work-in-progress photos of the costume being entered.

  5.Performance Audio (Microphones will not be available during the performance).

Performers should submit audio/visual in the following formats;

  ・Music: MP3, WAV
  ・Video: Mp4, WMV, MKV
  ・Images: JPEG, PNG

All dialogue, music, and props are required to fit within a PG rating. This means that no swearing or sexual connotations or instances. Simply ask yourself if you think what you want to do is appropriate for children, and if it doesn’t then don’t do it.

Each entry is limited to a maximum of 10 cosplayers per group. For special circumstances, please contact the Cosplay Competition Coordinator.

Limited At-Con/Late registration will be available at the Cosplay Competition if space permits on the day. We reserve the right to refuse additional entrees.

Staffs of Animaga Expo 2017 are NOT eligible to compete in the Cosplay Competition. Volunteers can enter.

COSTUMES POLICY

Law Enforcement Uniformed Costumes Are Prohibited

COSTUMES THAT LOOK LIKE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OR OTHER EMERGENCY RESPONSE PERSONNEL UNIFORMS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THE EVENT.

It is not safe to impersonate local law enforcement, emergency personnel, or first responders, as it may cause confusion. Animaga has the right to decide whether your costume looks too similar to law enforcement or emergency response personnel uniforms, and to request the removal or a modification of the costume. If you refuse to cooperate, Animaga may deny you entrance to the Event.

General Costume Rules:

  ・Costumes cannot be overly sexualised, Animaga asks our attendees to keep in mind that children as young as 2 years old attend our Events.

  ・No exposure of genitalia, buttocks or breasts is allowed.

  ・Appropriate footwear is required at all times.

  ・The soles of your feet should be covered at all times.

  ・Very large wings/attachments to your costume (that extend significantly past your width and height) are not to be worn while in the exhibitor’s hall. They are to be left in the cloakroom and collected for the cosplay competition or photo booth.

PERFORMANCE RULES AND GUIDELINES

1.Individual
   a.Skit
       i.Purpose: To perform an act in addition to displaying the costume, or does not qualify by the Walk-on time limit.
       ii.Time limit: 3 minutes (includes set up and clean ups).
iii.The skit must;
              1.Be family friendly (PG-13).
2.Have pre-recorded sound and/or images sent to the Cosplay Coordinator prior to the convention.
   b.Walk-on
i.Purpose: To display the costume.
ii.Time limit: 1 minute (includes time for posing and moving between poses).
iii.You are to prepare 3 to 5 poses for modelling purposes.
1.You will be allowed light acting/dancing whilst moving between poses.

2.Group
   a.Skit
i.Purpose: To perform an act in addition to displaying the costume, or does not qualify by the Walk-on time limit.
ii.Time limit: 5 minutes (includes set up and clean ups).

i.Purpose: To display the costume.

Cosplays entered into the competition must be personally made by the participants, or heavily modified. If the cosplay has received an award prior to the competition, it must have been significantly modified since then.

If participants wish to enter the competition with a cosplay that does not follow the above rule, participants must notify us with the acknowledgement that there will be a score penalty.

Judging

1.Craftsmanship: How well-crafted the cosplay was.

2.Acting and Performance: How well the performer(s) got their point across (via music, dialogue and/or imagery) and how well they performed.

3.Special: Our guests have varied specialties and may notice certain aspects of your cosplay(s) that others did not.

(The first and second criteria have a maximum of 10 points each, while there’s a maximum of 5 points for the ‘Special’ criteria.)
